Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 447 restricts rear and side yard fences to a maximum 2 metres (6.5 ft) without a minor variance. Front yard fences are capped at 1 metre.

Lot-Line Setback
Fences must be erected on or within your property line. Encroaching even 2 inches onto a neighbour's lot can trigger a removal order. We pull survey stakes before every install.

Corner Lot Sight Lines
On corner lots, no fence above 0.9 metres within the "sight triangle" — the area 6m back from the intersection on each street. Applies to most Etobicoke and Scarborough corners.

Heritage Property Rules
Properties in Heritage Conservation Districts (e.g., parts of Leslieville, Cabbagetown) require Heritage Permit approval before fence installation. We handle the application.

If your fence encloses a pool, Ontario Building Code requires a minimum 1.2m fence with self-latching gate and no horizontal rails below 900mm on the pool side.

Privacy fence for a semi-detached on a 25-ft lot
The owners had 18 inches of clearance on the east side between their house and the property line. We ran a 6-ft cedar privacy fence the full 140-ft run using a post-driver instead of an auger — no damage to the neighbour's garden beds.
Etobicoke — Long Branch
Duplex yard split for separate tenant entrances
A landlord needed to divide a 50-ft-wide lot into two private rear yards. We installed a cedar fence with a dedicated gate on each side — tenants haven't spoken since, which is apparently what everyone wanted.
Oakville — Bronte
Dog-proof perimeter for a corner lot
A golden retriever named Bruno had cleared the old chain-link three times. We replaced the full perimeter with 6-ft cedar, poured concrete footings to 4 ft, and added a dig-guard board at grade. Bruno has not escaped since January.
North York — Willowdale
Heritage-district cedar replacement
The previous contractor had installed a vinyl fence in a heritage district without the required permit. The city issued a removal order. We pulled the permit, replaced with stained cedar matching the heritage guidelines, and filed the compliance certificate.
